Bolton: Our vision 2007-2017
This document - what the Government calls the Sustainable Community Strategy - is the route map that will guide Bolton to 2017.
Our vision for Bolton in 2017 is for it to be a place where everyone has an improved quality of life and the confidence to achieve their ambitions.
This plan will deliver real benefits for everyone now and in future generations. The two main aims are to narrow the gap between the most and the least well off and to ensure economic prosperity.
To support the achievement of these two main aims, we have identified six priority themes:
- Healthy
- Achieving
- Prosperous
- Safe
- Cleaner and greener
- Strong and confident.
The Bolton of 2017 will be shaped by:
- understanding the evidence of need and priorities in the local area
- what you have told us about what is important to you, your families and communities
- an understanding that we need to redouble our efforts around improving health and reducing health inequalities, and improving the educational achievement of our children and young people.
Bolton Vision partnership pledges to create opportunities for everyone. The future of our town depends on how each of us takes up these opportunities to raise our aspirations and achieve our ambitions.
That’s why, to make this vision a reality over the next decade, we need to make some big improvements, including:
- increasing life expectancy
- improving skills and qualifications
- benefiting from £600 million of private investment and 10,000 extra jobs
- reducing crime by a quarter
- providing cleaner streets and better parks and open spaces, and
- enjoying even stronger relations between our communities.
To make this a reality, we all need to work together – partner agencies, service providers, individuals, children, families, and communities.
We can make this happen.
It’s Bolton’s time.
